The gas blending courses teach you to blend using a variety of methods. A lot of work goes in behind the scenes to create the gas divers breathe. Being the blender is a key job at any busy dive facility and your work allows other divers to stay in the water, breathing the best gas for the tasks at hand. This can be seen as a proactive step towards increasing employability within the industry in addition to becoming a safe and competent gas blender.
There are several course options for gas blender. The table below outlines the differences in key content.
Course / Content | Nitrox (o2) Blending? | Trimix (He.) Blending? | Oxygen Cleaning Procedures? |
PADI Tec Gas Blender | YES | NO | YES |
PADI Trimix Blender | YES | YES | YES |
TDI Nitrox Blender | YES | NO | NO |
TDI Advanced Gas Blender | NO | YES | NO |
For all gas blender programs, several blending methods are demonstrated and used with the advantages and disadvantages discussed. Hazards relating to handling of oxygen are covered and how to manage the risks associated with blending. For classroom sessions, a demonstration unit gas booster is used for a breakdown on how and why they work. Manual gas calculations are shown in a simple way and electronic blending software can be compared.
The courses are all accompanied by a student manual and a USB resources drive. Upon successful completion, a PADI Tec or TDI certification is issued along with a DiveRepairs.com Certificate of Completion including a course transcript of topics covered.
